Deep Anger

As I mentioned in my first blog post, I live in Paramus, NJ (a.k.a. mall-town, USA). As I was driving to Garden State Plaza, which EVERYONE has to go to in December, my car came to a full stop... I live 5 minutes from the mall and i had to stop for 10 minutes just because someone didn't want the cars that were merging in from Route 17 to go in front of them. Wow, way to cause a huge back up by stopping in between both lanes. Now you or the other person can't go. what are you gonna do now? He could have easily just let the other person pass him and he could have gone right after that person. No one was telling him to let everyone go past him, just one person. I believe that some people should just let other people pass at certain times because it is just stupid to just cause everyone to stop just because you don't want one person to pass. In the New Jersey Driver's Manual it states "slow down to make the pass easier for the other motorist. (N.J.S.A. 39:4-87)". Weren't we all supposed to read this manual before we got our licenses?

Thinking Deep Again (Thanks maryclaire)

After receiving maryclaire's comment on my last post, I started to think about "my solution" again. Speed minimums are great, but do they really prevent traffic jams? What if that highway that my family goes on every time that we go to New Hampshire just doesn't have traffic jams like they do in New York and New Jersey? Like maryclaire stated, why not use public transportation? (thank you :D) In New Jersey, they offer three different types of public transportation, bus, train (rail) and light rail. The schedules and fares for these three types of transportation are available on the NJ transit website, www.njtransit.com. At the website, there is also a trip planner that will help you understand what trains, or buses, you have to take and the time that they depart and arrive. This is something that we already have, something that many people already use. If more people were to use this, then we could have less cars driving on the highways and less traffic jams.

Thinking Deep

Since I said that I was addressing a problem, I must give solutions, right? Then I started thinking, what is a solution to traffic? As much as I'd like to believe that there is a plan that will get rid of traffic FOREVER, there isn't. There are way too many people that drive in America. Like many of your comments (which I appreciate :D), you all feel the same way as I do about traffic. A lot of the traffic is caused because there is always someone out there on the highway that will always go 30 mph (seriously dude?) when the speed limit is 65 mph. I can safely say that we all hate that person, unless you are that person, then we hate YOU! So, to all those that hate that person, how do you feel about speed minimums? No that was not a typo, it is what I wanted to type....

(Google Images) (Okay maybe there isn't a highway in New Jersey that has a speed limit of 80 mph, but the speed minimum being 75 mph helps me prove my point. When all the cars are moving at the same speed, there isn't a bad hold up.)

Since my dad's brother lives in New Hampshire, we visit them at least 2 to 3 times a year. This means that we have to drive for 6 HOURS! On one highway that we go on, there is a speed minimum!! (whaaaaat?!?!?! they exist!?!?!?) The speed limit on that highway is 65 mph and the speed minimum is 45 mph. And guess what?? Out of the 50 times that we went there, we only hit traffic once on that highway and that was due to major construction!! (jealous?)

Thanks Kae!!

As Kae stated in her comment on my post, in deep thought, China holds the record for the longest traffic jam. According to worldrecordsacademy.org, this traffic jam on the Beijing-Tibet Expressway lasted for 11 days and stretched to about 60 miles. 11 DAYS?!?!?! Like G.i.m.i. stated, I would have just left my car after the first 10 hours. Who ever stayed for the 11 whole days must be very patient, which is something I'm not. What would YOU do if this ever happened to you?

In Deep Thought...

Hello! Welcome to my blog. My name is Deep Patel (for those people that aren't in my Writing Power class :P) and I created this blog to address a problem, traffic. Since I don't live on campus, I have to drive to college everyday and I hit traffic every time. Living in Paramus, NJ (a.k.a. mall central, USA) it takes me 20 minutes to get to the grocery store when I can walk there in the same time. If you have ever been in a car while I am driving, you would know that i hate traffic so much. I believe that everyone hates traffic. I mean come on, who wants to sit in a car for 15 more minutes than they normally have to? Who wants to waste their gas just sitting in their car for 30 minutes on the highway? Would YOU?
